Reflections on 10th lesson

This week I saw many surveys on the studywiz website. although the online survey will reach more people, i feel that that it is not personalized and makes me feel unwilling to do it. I think that a hard copy survey passed around would be better because that would make the survey more "friendly" So yah, thats what I learnt.

Okay, for this reflections i am going to write about what I feel about each group members contributions. I think that Willie is a great group leader who tries to get everyone to do stuff that is needed. (great job BTW;P) I think that Norman is very co-operative but forgets work often. YJX and YTY have cool nicknames. They give good ideas and constructive comments but sometimes they are very slack. Yah, thats all. if any one doesn't like this, look for me in school.

Well, I’ve finally finished all the reflections and print them out. I hope that I will get good grades for my IPW. By the way, many sec 2s are asking others to do their online survey. I received about 8 of those emails through Studywiz. Actually, I think we should have done an online survey. That way, we will get a better response.

This week we went through the details of our ozone layer and lionel bought the materials for us. we paid like $4 each? maybe 5 bucks... we paid cash for the items that we couldnt find or recycle so this way, we minimize the cost of the product

Well this week we started our survey and i saw a friend of my going around asking teachers to fill up the survey forms.... thankfully that didn't earn him a detention class....it turns out that most teachers dont know much about the earth... and those that do have a very basic understanding (excluding the humanities teachers of course)

Reflection on ninth lesson by Lionel

Okay, this week I learnt more about how to make a model of the ozone layer. Our group went through the materials needed to make the model.It was decided that I would buy the materials. So I bought some cling film and wooden sticks. (The others bought the rest.) Oh yah, earth Hour is coming soon (28th march) so I am going to switch off my lights for an hour.

Okay. This week(actually no longer this week.) I did the survey thing. I learnt that to get people to co-operate with you is important. We did our final product plan and I found our product quite interesting. I feel that if we just put in a little more effort, we might finish the work on time.

We planned to meet up at our secretary’s house to assemble all the parts for our final product. We will try to finish our product by the end of the school holidays. I hope that we can complete everything on time. I also hope that our final product would work well.

Updates On the Product

We decide to have a solar panel for the product and we are researching on it. We added the solar panel for our product is because our theme is about global warming and clean energy, so it should relate the topic well enough. Our final product should be interesting, well decorated and realistic.

Okay... Reflections...I learnt that we must do a survey soon. A sec 3 group went up to present something last thursday on GRACE. I learnt a lot from them. Like that each group member must do something that relates to his strengths and complement each other. We must also do oral Presentation.

Facts: we spent the lesson discussing what was the best way to do the survey and we have decided to ask our classmates and possibly our teachers as they might provide valuable information for us, even though some of them are not that bright... Anyway... we decided on this decision as a group not as individuals. so this proves that our teamwork is improving slightly...

Reflection on sixth lesson by Lionel

Okay. Facts: We must do a survey that involves many people. Idea: We can split up the survey and have each group member do maybe 10-20 people each. So as to split up the work load. We can survey our family members and friend and then compile the results. Other: It will be hard to do this (yikes!) and will be very time consuming. I will try to organise my time and allocate sufficient time for this important step.

Reflection on fourth and fifth lesson by Lionel

Sorry. I am clearing my reflections. On those weeks, we met up together on the 6th of February to discuss the plans for the final product. Also discussed were the job allocations and goals. I leant that group meetings are an important and necessary step to completing our tasks well and on time. (so I must also learn to do things on time and not wait till I am reminded) Of course, we need to have job allocations so everyone is involved and no one has nothing to do. It will also prevent two people from doing the same job.(Like Tee Yang does something and I do another. Or something) I also learnt a lot of interesting fact about the ozone layer and the gas OZONE. I have learnt that an ozone molecule is made up of three oxygen atoms and is very unstable. The ozone in the atmosphere(Ozone layer) filters out UV light. Ozone is created when UV light strikes an oxygen atom and splits it up into separate atoms which then connects wit unbroken O2 molecules which turns it to ozone.

I know, I’m still posting my reflections late. I realized that it is my duty to post all my reflections on time, as it is my marks, not my group members. It isn’t the group leader’s duty to keep reminding me to do my reflections, I’m supposed to do it myself. It seems that our group is doing fine and I hope that we can keep up with the other groups.

I think we should meet up to discuss on the project more often as it will be easier to get things done quickly and properly. The group leader can also monitor the group’s progress and improve our weak points. This way, we can do well for this project. I know that I have not been punctual in posting my reflections. Sorry i am late. Could not log in.

Facts: The weather is changing constantly and cannot be controlled or modified. It can cause immense good or harm. The weather controls our diet, the way we live and many more. Ideas: in order for the weather to be more constant and predictable, we need to conserve our environment. If we continue to destroy the ozone layer or damage our lands, it will take “revenge”.

i know im late... and i dont need you to keep telling me that willie.

 Facts: weather cannot be controlled by man. If someone says he can control the weather A) he came from the mental hospital B) he's just joking around. Anyways... weather can be predicted as there are signs for changes in the weather. What we do affects what happens on earth. So, when we burn items, carbon monoxide is produced, harming the earth.

Ideas: cut down on burning items. Increase energy savings to prevent more burning of fossil fuels

Facts: The weather is all around us, all the time. It is an important part of our lives and one that we cannot control. Instead the weather often controls how and where we live, what we do, what we wear and what we eat.

Fact: The ozone layer is mostly made up of ozone. It absorbs 90+% of ultraviolet rays. More than 90% of the atmosphere is located there.

Idea: Pump some ozone gas in to the damaged areas (if possible) and  seal up the damaging holes.

Facts:The earth is in danger. Ozone layer is being depleted causing holes in it. This allows UV light to enter and UV light is harmful to us. The thickness of the ozone is very little and if we keep causing damage to it, there will eventually be no ozone. The lack of  ozone will cause many skin problems

Ideas: We need to protect the ozone layer by using more eco-friendly items. We can also reduce the amount of smoke emissions. Also, by not burning things, we can reduce the amount of smoke emissions. Use items that are energy saving because producing electricity also harms the earth.

Facts:I know that we will have to cooperate and work well as a team to complete this project well and to benefit us. We need a good leader to organize the group and delegate tasks for us. We need to follow the leader and be willing to cooperate with what he says.

Ideas:I think that with proper time management and work distribution, we will complete this project on time and achieve good results.

Learning Issues:I need to do what my leader tells me. I must research the topic well and to satisfactory  work. I cannot take short-cuts.

Action plan:I will  do what ever it takes to achieve good results. I will help my teammates with their difficulties.

Facts: I know that we need to work as a team to complete this project. I know that we need a good leader so that we can do well. I know that we have to follow our leader to achieve good results

Fact:

We need to have good teamwork in order for our project work to become successful. We also need to appoint a group leader to help us coordinate our work(hopefully it wont be lionel...) We also have to work hard in order to meet the deadlines for our work.

Ideas:

If someone does not understand a certain topic, the people who understand, must work together to help him understand what it is about. We must work together and think as one body in order to increase our productivity. We also need to stay back and come up with ideas to help us in this project. We also need some backup ideas incase our main ideas do not work or fail. Hopefully, we will not need to use this plans.

Learning issues: 

we need to know one another's strength and weakness in order to maximize our results. we should also assign task to the people who are most  fit for it. If we assign the wrong kind of people to the wrong kind of jobs, we could end up getting bad results as he might not be suitable for the job. I also will do some research about global warming in order to help my team an come up with better ideas.

Action plan:

I will finish most of the work assigned to me about 1-2 days before the dead line and i will do my best to ensure that it is quality work and not rubbish. I will also contribute ideas to my team. I would do my best to help every one in anyway i can and try to help willie if possible.

FACTS

I know that we need teamwork for this project or else we would not do very well. I also know that we have to appoint a good group leader ASAP so that he can appoint task to us to do earlier. I also know we have to be efficient in work to meet deadlines.

Ideas

I think that when someone have difficulties, we have to guide them until they understand. I think that we would be able to finish this project and excel if we all work together. 

LEARNING ISSUES

I would want to find out my teammates prowess and weakness so that we could do task that is of our prowess. I also would want to find out what task i am assigned to so that i can do it earlier so that i would not fail to meet the deadlines.

ACTION PLAN

I can do tasks assigned to me before it meets deadlines. I also can contribute ideas to my team. I can also help my teammates if they encounter any difficulties or need any help.

Reflection on the 1st lesson (Willie Seah 37)

Facts- I know the project is going to benefit us and we can learn from it. This is because our research is on earth and I'm interested to this topic and keen to understand more of it. I also know that choosing a right group leader in our group is important because he need to have a good time management and to guide them along the project.

  

Ideas- I think if we have good teamwork and coordination, we can finish the project smoothly and are satisfied with the result at the completion of it. We can also discuss about the topic now instead of starting it later.

  

Learning Issues- I want to find out what really is global warming, why or how does they occur and what can we do about it. Knowing what is the purpose of having teamwork here also gain me more knowledge. Hope that I could be somehow know to blog well.

  

Action Plan- As a group leader, I need to maintain the 'teamwork spirit' and 'peace' in the group. This is because it can affect our whole group's efficiency. We have no 'I' in our group which everyone will do the amount of work same as the other group member to be fair.
